Product Overview: High-Purity Pentaerythritol

Pentaerythritol [C(CH2OH)4] is a versatile, polyhydric alcohol containing four primary hydroxyl groups. It appears as an odorless, white crystalline powder and is a fundamental building block in modern organic synthesis.

Sakthima supplies premium technical grade and mono-grade pentaerythritol (purity ≥ 95–98%) with high hydroxyl values, low ash, and minimal moisture. It serves as an essential raw material for alkyd resins, synthetic aviation lubricants, radiation-cure acrylates, rosin esters, and intumescent fire-retardant coatings.

Product Overview: High-Purity Pentaerythritol

Key Benefits

Superior Alkyd Resin Performance

Provides fast drying times, high crosslink density, gloss retention, and weatherability in alkyd enamel paints.

Intumescent Fire Protection

Acts as the primary carbonific agent in fire-retardant coatings, swelling into an insulating carbon foam during fire exposure.

High-Performance Synthetic Lubricants

Reacts with fatty acids to produce polyol esters for jet engine oils, biodegradable hydraulics, and refrigeration fluids.

Polymer Crosslinking Agent

Enhances flexural modulus, chemical resistance, and hardness in polyurethane and radiation-cure acrylic formulations.

Low Color Index

Ultra-low Gardner color index (≤ 1) prevents yellowing in high-clarity varnishes and specialty finishes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mono-grade contains ≥ 98% pure pentaerythritol, providing higher melting points and precise stoichiometry for synthetic lubricants and specialty acrylates. Technical grade contains approximately 88–92% monopenta with the balance being dipentaerythritol, which is ideal for standard alkyd paints and varnishes.
When exposed to high fire temperatures, pentaerythritol acts as a carbon source, reacting with ammonium polyphosphate to expand up to 50 times its original thickness into an insulating microporous carbon char.
When stored in original unopened packaging in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse, it has a shelf life of at least 24 months.
